Meaning

The world contains numerous meanings and interpretations. Every person in society lives within these contexts by the codes and rules they abide by.

Every interpretation of meaning that people or objects give us are universal, however everyone has their own way of understanding certain meanings in society. These concepts tcreate the society we live in.

Media Making, in our text, explains that people share common codes that provide common maps of how the world should be interpreted. We all grow up learning a way of life, and how we should respond to our lives and the objects and situations we come across.

The one concept that stood out to me is thinking that every person in society is put into a reality, forcing them to fit into it. Instead of facing the fact that our maps or meanings may be sub par.

More often than not we don't change how we react in specific situations, instead we force those instances or meanings to shift and change to fit our liking. As individuals we would rather shift the meaning of something than change. With change the patterns that we are used to thinking or feeling are incorrect.

To me this is intriguing due to the fact it proves society is shown what to do and act like when growning up. Being told our thinking is correct, and that if for some reason a concept does not fitting or is not accepted into our society, we feel it may be easier to change that concept than our way of thinking.
